Goes into a lot of the basic inofrmation
Since we have just recently started feeding raw, we are starting with chicken only as it is the easiest and less pungent meat to transition all our cats from dry and wet to raw.
Our Recipe:
If your cat/kitten is not wanting to eat the raw because their are new to it or because you added in a new meat, you can try to add in a few different things to help.
The easiest ratio is 80% meat, 10% bone and 10% secreting organ. You don't need to measure down to the gram, just get pretty close.
You DO NOT need supplements if you are feeding a balanced raw diet!
They will also not need to drink a lot of water when eating a raw diet. Most of their water will come from their raw food.
You can use a variety of animals, trying 1 new one at a time (similar to giving a baby 1 new food at a time). I would say 1 new animal every couple months is enough if you want to. Examples are chicken, of course, beef, pork, lamb, turkey, quail, rabbit, duck, goat, deer and pheasant.
Do your research on fish, it can be high in mercury and dangerous. *Sardines are good though!*
If making your own is not something you want to do then buying pre-made raw from a store or having it delivered to your house is another option. We have a few links to some of the best pre-made raw down below. Buying it pre-made is, of course, more expensive than doing it yourself. You pay for the convenience. Darwin's is easiest to start with.
You can also ask your local butchers. Some butchers make up raw food and sell it and it is cheaper than the other pre-made options. As always, do your research with what they use and their percentages etc.
So many benefits to adding raw eggs to your recipe!
We started with just 10% liver as it was easiest to get everyone transitioned. We will be switching to 5% liver and 5% other secreting organ (chicken kidney or spleen to start).
These are part of the muscle meat.
